Recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2025):

Here are some of the reasons why Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2025):

  • Sunnybrook Health Sciences' campus includes several energy-saving features, such as an architecturally integrated solar photovoltaic array, a cogeneration facility that simultaneously produces electricity, heat and cooling to most of the hospital's power), and LED lighting retrofits to improve energy efficiency
  • In its first year, the Green Task Force at Sunnybrook Health Sciences established the GROW Framework to guide efforts in five core areas: green buildings and grounds, research, education and culture, clinical operations, and waste and procurement -- second-year initiatives expanded the focus by supporting front-line operational green teams in key functional areas of the organization, including Surgery, the Veterans Centre, and Maintenance
  • Sunnybrook Health Sciences has a well-developed environmental sustainability policy aimed at continually improving environmental performance and patient care by optimizing energy and water use, reducing waste, preventing pollution and promoting environmental health (the policy is supported by a number of unique outreach initiatives that encourage employee involvement)
