Here are some of the reasons why Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan Inc. / Farm Mutual Re was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2025):
- In collaboration with Sustainable Waterloo Region, Farm Mutual planted a microforest on its office grounds to increase the local tree canopy, help remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and create a healthy habitat for insects and animals -- the organization also has an on-site community garden, where employees harvest the crops each year and donate them to a local food bank
- Farm Mutual's head office incorporates numerous green features inside and out, including rainwater collection systems, green roofs, drought-resistant landscaping and hand weeding, a ground source heat pump for heating and cooling, photocell-controlled sunshades, sensor-controlled lighting, and low-flow, motion sensor water fixtures
- Farm Mutual transitioned to reusable plates and cutlery for company lunches and events, and encourages employees to adopt green habits through convenient desk-side recycling bins and on-site collection of organics, e-waste, batteries, milk bags and eyeglasses
