Recognized as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers (2025):
By Kristina Leung, Chantel Watkins, and Cypress Weston, Mediacorp Canada Inc. staff editors (Feb 24, 2025)
Here are some of the reasons why D2L Corporation was selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers (2025):
- D2L captures demographic data through a voluntary self-identification questionnaire that includes the four designated employment equity groups, as well as additional data related to racial and ethnic identity, 2SLGBTQIA+, and individuals with caregiving responsibilities -- the organization also solicits employee feedback through engagement surveys and participates in an annual diversity and inclusion survey
- D2L uses talent data to make informed decisions related to promotions or salary increases, allowing the organization to monitor promotions, turnover and compensation changes by gender -- talent review, year-end performance ratings, merit and salary increases are also calibrated to reduce biases
- D2L provides training to enhance employee and manager knowledge and expectations specific to diversity, inclusion and belonging, covering topics such as unconscious bias, allyship, accessible spaces, and racial equity -- additionally, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging training is required for all employees and is integrated into new employee onboarding

Shortly after starting my journey with D2L, I embarked on a profound period of self-discovery, which included identifying as transgender. It was a challenging time in my life, filled with uncertainty about how friends and family would react and what transitioning would mean for my future. [...] Despite those external pressures, coming to work was a sanctuary. I felt celebrated and valued for who I truly was. This environment allowed me to thrive and, in turn, support others navigating similar experiences. Knowing that my authenticity was embraced by my workplace lightened the emotional burden and reaffirmed the importance of diversity in fostering a culture of inclusion and respect. This journey has shown me the transformative power of acceptance and the critical role workplaces play in creating spaces where everyone can be their true selves. Alec Gallant, senior courseware developer
